WINTER FLY FISHING COMPETITION SUN 29TH JAN 2012.
With the state the last two winters have been we have not organised any winter comps, so with the weather looking ok we are going to make up for it this year with over £1000 worth of tackle up for grabs!!! there will be orvis reels,loomis lines, hats, fly tying materials and 1st place there will be a g loomis 10ft 8# max glx comp to be had worth £639.99!!.
we will also be holding a raffle in aid of afghan heroes on the day.
The cost of the day will be £25 per angler which will inc bacon buttie and check in at 8.30am,the competition will start at 9.30am fishing untill 3.00pm.
The weigh-in/prize giving and raffle will then take place with hot pork n stuffing butties and soup on the go!!

Hope you all had a great christmas and got loads of fishing goodies!!.
The milder weather has brought the fish on to the feed this last few days with a few even being caught on drys!
Peter crow from stokton caught and released a 12lb rainbow just before christmas caught from the top fly lake,top patterns have been various lures with cats whiskers and black fritz working best.

First of all a massive thanks to everybody that turned up for our bonfire/fireworks display on nov 5th for afghan hereos we are pleased to say we raised a huge £2450.97p on the night!!n well done everybody.
The lakes are getting stocked today with fish from 2lb-15lb so there should be some good sport to be had.
cats whiskers and blobs have been working well over the past week with some nice fish coming to the net.

The water is really starting to turn on now with things cooling off, black buzzers have fished well this last week and getting some good eveining rises to daddys and hoppers.
Regular angler Simon hathaway from throckley landed and returned the fish of a lifetime a cracking 15lb brown trout from the specimen lake on a blue/black buzzer.
Powerbait is now allowed on the bait lake for the winter.
This week there will be a big autum stocking in all lakes with fish from 2lb-double figure.
Dont forget theres soup n a bun on the go every weekend for all anglers throughout the winter.

The specimen lake has now re-opened there is still a bit of floating weed left to get out but very fishable,first rod back on the water was Richard patterson from west denton who caught and returned a cracking 12lb3oz brownie on an olive hopper...NICE!.

THE LAKES ARE FISHING WELL AT THE MOMENT TO BLACK DRYS AND BUZZERS BLACK HOPPERS AND CDC BUZZERS WORKING BEST FISHED ON A FLOATING LINE WITH LONG LEADER,DRIFTED.
THE SPECIMEN LAKE IS CURRENTLY BEING DE-WEEDED AND WILL BE OPEN FOR THE WEEKEND.
STILL A FEW PLACES LEFT FOR THE AFGHAN HEROS COMP ON AUG 7TH AND DONT FORGET CAMPING IS STILL AVAILABLE!!

SOME NICE BLUES UP TO 6LB BEING CAUGHT AT THE MOMENT FROM THE TOP LAKES, THE SPECIMEN LAKE IS STILL BEING DE-WEEDED BUT SHOULD BE OPEN SOON.
TREVOR WADDS FROM ALNWICK WON THE GREYS OPEN BANK CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT AT THE WEEKEND WITH 9 FISH RICHARD WOOD FROM BELSAY WAS SECOND,ALOT OF BLUES WERE CAUGHT ON THE DAY BIGGEST 4 1/2 LB ,WITH A ROD AVERAGE OF 3 FISH.
